Arrhythmia

An arrhythmia is an irregular heartbeat. The heart may beat too fast (tachycardia), too slow (bradycardia), too early (premature contraction), or with an irregular rhythm (fibrillation).

Many heart arrhythmias are harmless. Some arrhythmias, however, result from a weak or damaged heart, and may cause troublesome and even potentially fatal symptoms.

New York Cardiovascular Associates cardiologists are experts in the diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias. If your doctor suspects you may have an arrhythmia, he or she will recommend that you be tested. Testing for arrhythmias includes minimally invasive exams to detect any heart rhythm abnormalities. If you are diagnosed with an arrhythmia, your cardiologist will discuss your treatment options with you, and develop a comprehensive treatment plan.
